This writing prompt floated across Twitter today.
You hear a knock at your front door. You go to it and open it. You find yourself staring at you. What do you do?
This mind-bending question is meant to prompt a piece of flash fiction, and it will, at some point. But when I saw it, all I could think about was a few things I actually did want to say to myself.
As I thought about this impossible scenario, I wondered if it might be an older or younger self. If older, what would this future self have to say, even if she were only a few months older than I am now?
I realized I knew exactly what she would say — Hey, Cathryn! Just curious…how many times are you going to have to learn the same lesson? The thing you fear is a figment of your imagination. Aren’t you glad you finally wrote that book?
